2019 ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR AWARD
Glenn F. Hing
The recipient of the Award will be recognized at APABA-PA’s Annual Banquet on October 4, 2019.
Mr. Hing is a founder and shareholder of Hing Cheng P.C. His practice is concentrated in the areas of real estate and commercial transactions, commercial and residential landlord and tenant matters, land use and zoning and regulatory matters, business law and commercial litigation. He received a degree in Business Administration from Temple University, School of Business Administration in 1979 and his Juris Doctorate Degree from Temple University, School of Law, in 1982.
Mr. Hing is a founding member and past Officer of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania and for many years served on the Executive Committee and as an Officer and currently serves on the Leadership Advisory Council (LAC). He is also a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. In July, 2002 he was named as one of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in Pennsylvania by The Legal Intelligencer/ Pennsylvania Law Weekly. He was named as one of Philadelphia’s Top Rated Lawyers in 2012 by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell and has consistently maintained the highest AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings. He was selected as a 2013 Top Rated Lawyer in Land Use and Zoning by American Lawyer Media and Martindale- Hubbell. He has served as a panelist, lecturer and faculty member for various organizations, including the Urban League, Leadership Institute, Pennsylvania Mortgage Bankers Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.
Mr. Hing is a past Chair of the Real Property Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and also served as a member of the Association’s Board of Governors. He served on the Executive Committee of the Association’s Business Law Section and on also served on the Judicial Selection and Retention Commission, as a member of the Commission and as an investigator.
Mr. Hing was appointed by then Governor Edward Rendell to serve as a Commissioner on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian American Affairs. He served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Penn’s Landing Corporation, which manages and oversees the development Philadelphia’s waterfront area. He served on the Expansion Advisory Committee of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. He was a co-chair of the Productivity and Management Committee of the Transition Team for former Mayor John F. Street and was appointed to serve as a member of Mayor Street’s Task Force on Police Discipline. He was appointed by former Mayor Michael Nutter to serve on the Mayor’s Task Force on City Facilities, which was charged with reviewing, reporting and making recommendations to the Mayor with regard to the use of City-owned and City- leased properties.
Mr. Hing is currently General Counsel and a member of the Advisory Board of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, which serves to promote and assist Asian owned businesses in the greater Philadelphia area.
Mr. Hing has been involved with many community based organizations. He served on the Board of Directors and as an Officer and Advisory Committee member of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, a non-profit community development organization. He has served as an advisor to the Pan Asian Association of Greater Philadelphia.
Mr. Hing is a founder and an advisor to the Philadelphia Suns, a non-profit organization that was organized in Philadelphia Chinatown in 1972 and continues to provide opportunities for young people to participate in organized sports, cultural activities and social events to instill a sense of cultural and community pride and provides annual scholarships to assist with the costs of college education.
Mr. Hing is a graduate of Central High School of Philadelphia and member of its Alumni Association.
