John Chou

John serves as Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of AmerisourceBergen Corporation, a Fortune 12 company and the largest public company in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  At AmerisourceBergen, John is responsible for strategy, business development, innovation, information technology, legal and compliance. Before joining AmerisourceBergen in 2002, John was a partner with Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott. He previously held senior legal positions with CIGNA Corporation and ARCO Chemical Company, where he was Chief Corporate Counsel and then Chief European Counsel. He started practicing law as an antitrust associate with Weil Gotshal in New York and then as a corporate associate with Morgan Lewis in Philadelphia. John graduated from Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In law school, he was editor of the Penn Law Review and president of his graduating class.

John has been recognized throughout his career for his outstanding achievements and efforts in advancing social justice.  John is one of the foremost pioneers and supporters of advancing the status of Asian Pacific Americans both within and outside of the legal profession.  John is a founding member and two-time past president of APABA-PA, and a long-time member of its Leadership Advisory Council.  John has been named to the Lawyers of Color’s Power List and is a recipient of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund’s Justice in Action Award.

Among his many contributions to the community, John serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, as well as Episcopal Community Services in Philadelphia. John also serves on the Committee of Seventy’s Board of Directors.
