APABA-PA’s Lunar New Year Banquet, February 18th, 2021
Please come celebrate the 2021 Lunar New Year, the “Year of the Ox,” with APABA-PA! This all-virtual celebration will feature live performances by three Asian American comedic stars, a photo contest and networking! Come and join us for a relaxing night of laughter and fun!
Date: Thursday, February 18th, 2021.
Program: 7:00 pm – 7:45 pm EDT.
Networking: 7:45 pm – 8:00 pm EDT.
Registration: Registration is free. After you register for a ticket, you will receive an email with the Zoom link closer to the event date to access the virtual event. Please register by Monday, February 15, 2021. This year, instead of charging for ticket prices, we are accepting donations to APABA-PA. Please see details below on how to donate.
Lunar New Year’s photo contest: Please share photos of you and your family celebrating Lunar New Years! Make sure to include all the delicious food (e.g. dumplings), traditions and fun family activities. Winners will be announced during the event and prizes will be awarded to the best and funniest photos. Please submit photos to [email protected] by Monday, February 15, 2021.
Comedians:
- Ed Poproski. Born in South Korea and adopted at 19 months old, Ed was raised mostly in Philly. Ed performs stand up in various clubs and bars throughout the country. Ed also writes, produces, directs and edits content for NBCUniversal. Ed helped produce the first ever Asian Comedy Festival held in New York City at The Peoples’ Improv Theatre. It brought together over 60 Asian comics and actors from all over the country and was featured in the New York Times. - Karan Menon. Karan Menon is a 20-year old stand-up comedian and writer based in LA. He is best known for his “woke TikToks”, using humor to break down current social issues like police brutality and voter suppression for a Gen Z audience. He has amassed over 100k followers and 2.8 million likes on TikTok, and his work has been featured by The New York Times, CNN, the National Lampoon, and Al Jazeera. He recently partnered with the National Police Accountability Project to use his comedic voice to shed light on overlooked legal doctrines in the American justice system. Karan is also the first TikTok creator to be cited by a federal judge. https://karanmenon.com/.
- Hans Kim. Hans Kim is a Seattle-based comedian who has been on Sirius XM Bumbershoot, Bridgetown and Laughing Skull comedy festivals and a finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition. https://www.facebook.com/hanskimcomedy/.
