About the Program
The month of May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. In the current climate, it is critically important to collectively celebrate the contributions that Asian and Pacific Islander Americans are making. Hear from U.S. Representative Andy Kim, New Jersey’s first Asian American congressman who was photographed cleaning up the Capitol building after the January 6, 2021, insurrection rioting and siege, and Nydia Han, whose #ThisIsAmerica digital series on race and who we are as Americans garnered national attention, for an honest dialogue on life as an Asian Pacific American in the United States and the collective steps we all must take to combat stereotypes, microaggressions and other harmful behaviors and attitudes.
This program is supported by the Duane Morris Asian American Attorney and Staff Employee Resource Groups and will be hosted by Duane Morris partner Phil Cha, who serves as co-chair of the Asian American Attorney ERG.
About Congressman Andy Kim
Congressman Andy Kim was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. He represents the Third Congressional District of New Jersey, which stretches from the Delaware River to the Jersey Shore encompassing most of Burlington County and parts of Ocean County. As a member of the House, Congressman Kim serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Small Business.
In his first term, Congressman Kim passed bills into law that help military service members and their families find economic opportunities and stopped the U.S. military’s use of harmful chemicals that impact New Jersey’s water. Prior to serving in the House, Congressman Kim worked as a career public servant under both Democrats and Republicans. He served at USAID, the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House National Security Council and in Afghanistan as an adviser to Generals Petraeus and Allen.
Congressman Kim grew up in South Jersey, the proud son of Korean immigrants, where he attended public K-12 schools before becoming a Rhodes Scholar.
